PETA Finally Emerges After Profusion of Animal Parts On The Runways
If you’ve been keeping up with the Fall 2009 fashion shows, you should have caught sight of how much leather and fur have dominated the runway. And as any ardent fashionista or fashion fan would know, PETA is usually front-row, red paint in hand, ready to jump on the next fur-infested concoction sent down the catwalk.
But through the New York, London and Milan shows, there was no trace of PETA. I was actually beginning to worry–has PETA actually given up? Are PETA staffers just at home, barfing or cursing the death of these designers? In fact, no, to both hypotheses; they came out full force in the middle of Paris Fashion Week and some may say that they were acting a bit like animals…
PETA staff ditched the flour this time (that was from Lindsay Lohan’s previous 15-seconds of fame) and threw eggs, yes, EGGS at editors rushing into Jean Paul Gaultier’s show. One volunteer even went so far as to rip the sleeve off of Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld’s Balenciaga coat. Ouch.
PETA’s tactics might have been less debatable if they abstained from hurling eggs. I thought hardcore PETA members abstained from using animal products? Maybe they used plastic Easter eggs?
peta is so unrefined in their actions. do they want people to join in their cause or to hate them? i am really confused.
that’s funny…throwing eggs, which are animal products…but serious, that is too much. can’t they get sued for attacking people? and ripping clothes…X_x
ugh. they give humane a bad name.
Carine is so haggard. She basically deserved to get the coat ripped off her back.
But seriously, PETA over reacts like terrorists.
She’s the one taking over Anna’s position in France, right?
Please get your facts straight! PETA had nothing to do with this. PETA supports animal rights but does not support breaking the law. Destroying other people’s clothing even if you think its wrong is illegal. PETA uses mail campaigns and ads and public awareness. It does not support breaking the law!
This is PETA’s official statement about this.
PETA doesn’t throw paint on people wearing fur coats. Some individual activists have used this tactic in the past, but they were not associated with or representatives of PETA. As a nonprofit, educational organization, PETA maintains a strict creed of nonviolence and advocates no action that is dangerous to any animal, human or nonhuman. PETA works very hard to stop cruelty to animals through pamphlets, billboards, letters, ads, articles, peaceful demonstrations, humane education in schools, and various campaigns.
For more information about how and why we fight the easily-avoidable cruelty of fur, see http://www.FurIsDead.com. To learn more about PETA and our life-saving work in behalf of animals, please visit http://www.PETA.org/about.
I’m not a big fan of PETA either. But no, they’re non-violent. They might take off their clothes, but they won’t throw paint on yours.
I always support the cause of PETA.”"~
my friends and i are all members of PETA, we love to protect animals”*,
Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
