Armani’s 2010 Collection for Fall, Falls Flat

Armani presented his Fall 2010 collection in a monochromatic atmosphere in beautiful Milan.  And what an ugly collection, if I do say so myself. Regardless of how “acclaimed” Armani’s collections are, I found this one to be meaningless. I can not find a simple cloth or garment to be innovative or even transcendental.
Let’s begin with the dark green shorts. Been there done that… including the high heels that look more Payless than Saks.  Additionally, the hair just seems ridiculous, and the fur coat is lovely …

THE CRITIC: Rogue Wave’s “Permalight” Impossible to Dislike

“Will you be the bed for me when they set the world on fire / just to see it burn?” frontman Zach Schwartz asks on “Solitary Gun,” the opening song off Rogue Wave’s deliciously bouncy new record Permalight. For a band that has been through some of the hells Rogue Wave have suffered over the past few years, including the death of a former bandmate and one member’s struggle with kidney failure, “Solitary Gun” is an unexpected shot in the arm, a booster of unbridled joy and money hooks that belie the song’s apocalyptic images. Indeed, “Solitary Gun” is a most unlikely anthem, one that sets the tone for the rest of Permalight as a bright, buoyant beacon of hope.

Alexander McQueen: A Retrospective

The first thing I ever wrote was an article about Alexander McQueen. He, alongside Galliano and Lagerfeld are the three people most responsible for me going into fashion and to be so eager to start a career as a designer. He is a genius (I don’t say “was” because his art makes him live on). His gift, his uncanny talent for finding shapes and colors and textures in the most amazing places, and transforming them into a pure manifestation of the highest expression of fashion, is just irreplaceable.

THE POP FIX Pick: Paul Dateh

Dateh’s unique brand of soul-searching has already caught the attention of Public Enemy and Run DMC, and his violin virtuoso can be head running smoothly over tracks by Keli and resident DJ Inca. At a time when Lil Wayne is trying to break traditional genre boundaries with rock song “Prom Queen,” Dateh’s already two steps ahead, one doo-bop scat above the norm. For his perfect pitch, vocal dexterity and undeniable passion, THE POP FIX predicts this Renaissance music man will be one to look out for in the very near future.

The Demise of Fashion

It’s official–fashion has imploded. What does this mean and how is it possible?
Let us first analyze the situation. Fashion is supposed to be defined as the “prevailing style of dress at the moment”. But at the moment, every imaginable trend out there is “in”: fringe, bright colors, dropped-crotch pants, skinny trousers, boyfriend blazers, shredded t-shirts, vintage floral dresses.
How to make a Shredded Tee video:

Obviously, this is creating a problem for designers as too many ideas are surfacing and there no longer seems to be a clear direction in the path …

NBC Super Bowl Rejects Obama Abortion Ad

A controversial anti-abortion ad has been pulled from NBC’s Super Bowl line-up.
The ad, by Catholic Vote, challenges Americans to rethink the repercussions of abortion and life without Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States. “Life, Imagine the Potential,” it states.

Controversial? Too much? Is NBC in the right, or are they overreacting?
