Sleeping From Food Coma

I’m so sleepy, my eyelids are starting to twitch and body is so relaxed it’s almost immobile.

As I write this entry my eyes are turning back and head is slowly turning to its side. My mouth is drooped open with a slight bit of saliva oozing out–and it’s only seven.

After eating french fries all day, a pie, a hamburger for dinner with a side of chilli and bread, with a salad, it’s no wonder I have what doctors consider to be food coma.

According to yourtotalhealth.com, food coma is is a phenomenon that occurs when your body slows down to process excess sugar in your system. After a big meal, your metabolism slows down so that it can digest your food completely. Food coma only occurs when you eat an excess of carbs, sugars or any food and can slow down your metabolism altogether. Kind of serious.

To prevent falling asleep after a meal, the Website suggests these steps:

  • Avoid sugar.
  • Snack on high-protein foods. Fresh nuts, seeds, little strips of cheese (raw-milk cheese is best), a hard-boiled egg, etc., make wonderful appetite-suppressing snacks that don’t cause big spikes in blood sugar (which cause an increase in insulin, which in turn ultimately LOWERS your blood sugar).
  • Don’t worry about fat content. In fact, most low-fat fad foods are LOADED with sugar. Check the labels…many candies now say ‘low fat’!

If you’re like me, you’re not going to take these suggestions too seriously to heart.

I for one, am just going to sleep like I usually do…like I’m going to do in five…four…three…tw
