The LA Fashion Week sponsored by Mercedes-Benz has been canceled for a while now, but a lack of funds and celebrity roster is not preventing fashionweekla.com from proudly stating that “LA Fashion Week” is March 13-20.

It’s nice to see that local designers may have an outlet to showcase their fall collections, if they choose to participate in a runway show, but it’s unfortunate that the “week” is rather unorganized.

Gen Art is kicking off BoxEight’s bi-annually scheduled show on Friday, March 13, featuring Raquel Allegra, GRAI and Society for Rational Dress, followed by a massive after party. Half of Saturday’s lineup is still “TBA”; the two standouts being LAEKEN and David Alexander. Sunday’s list has been more-or-less confirmed, including eco-conscious line The Battalion, Maxine Dillon, Whitley Kros, and closing with Li Cari, the 19-year-old designer of MTV’s “Catwalk” fame.

All three nights will conclude with after parties starting at 10PM, and with tickets being available to the masses, this fashion weekend might not just be drawing in the crowd it should be–buyers or industry professionals.

Not adhering to the concept of fashion “week”, there are no shows scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday… although everything is still “TBA”.

Thursday, March 19, sees a number of more established individuals displaying their work: Kevan Hall is holding a luncheon/presentation at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Louis Verdad is showcasing his work through a photography exhibition by August Bradley at the Geffen Contemporary in downtown, and Cameron Silver (of vintage couture boutique Decades) and Rachel Griffiths are hosting a fete-of-sorts for “20th Century Fashion”.

This final stretch of LA’s mock fashion “week” is supposedly to be dominated by Reveal LA’s Fashion & Design Event, though details are vague regarding the designers that will be showing, and the non-fashion/general design aspect of the event. The only thing confirmed for Friday, March 20, is a few women’s contemporary designer shows, by invitation only at the California Market Center. Simultaneously to be occurring afterwards or during (no times have been confirmed yet), is CoLA’s (City of Los Angeles) “fashion week”. CoLA’s “week” is also invite only, and will run through Sunday, March 22. Fremont, Andrew Christian, Brian Lichtenberg and Joyrich are slated to show.

If you’re confused, don’t be ashamed–who wouldn’t be? Why all of this disarray when the sponsors and organizations couldn’t just all congregate and decide upon one “hot” event for the fashion season, and actually make it into a week, instead of two quasi-weekends?
