THE POP SHOP: Melrose Edition

It’s the end of a long week and all you need is an entire day to relieve that stress you’ve accumulated sucking up to your less-than-brown-nose-worthy boss. And what’s your relief? A completely fabulous day on Melrose, of course!

But what do you wear when you know that your entire day, including the early morning to dinnertime, will be spent without time to change?

Solution: the jacket. Los Angeles may be sun-soaked most of the time, but we all know that mornings and nights are chilly. Helmut Lang’s draped leather jacket is an easy piece to throw on, is practical, warm and looks best in navy or black.
Mix it together with Pixie Market’s mesh-and-color-blocked mini dress. It can be dressed down for that lunch date at Le Pain Quotidien or dressed up for a dinner party and late night cocktail.

The white American Apparel opaque nylons are an unexpected match for the color-blocked dress, though you can play it safe with just regular old black nylons. The nylons adds a splash of flavor into your outfit while also protecting you from the cold evening air.

Aldo’s grey booties are also a reasonably priced alternative to Chloe’s popular cone-heeled sandals and pumps from Spring 2008, and the mid-heel height prevents the outfit from becoming too sexy…unless you enjoy attracting attention from passer-byers on Melrose, then team this outfit with fishnets and stilettos.

And how to top your outfit off? Alexis Bittar’s sculpted ribbon cuff pulls the ensemble altogether. Generally, this cuff would be the ideal accent for any monochrome ensemble, just to give your outfit a bit of spice.

A complete night on Melrose might include dinner with a significant other at Lucques plus some downtime at The Foundry, and with all the time spent rushing from place to place, it’s imperative to have a versatile outfit in the morning!
