Director Tim Miller On What’s Going On With Deadpool
If you’re anything like me, you’ve easily spent days and nights wondering if we’ll ever get to see that much-talked-about Deadpool movie, a project that despite fanboy demand, has been stuck in development purgatory at Fox for the past few years.
What’s it going to take to actually get this X-Men anti-hero his own solo movie?
In an attempt to answer that very question, I talked to Deadpool director Tim Miller for an update on the merc with a mouth. Regardless of what you’re heard from various blogosphere rumors that the project is losing steam, Miller confirmed they’re still “in the game” with revised concepts, and a reworked script from “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
In fact, according to Miller, the Deadpool movie is closer to getting that green light than it was two months ago.
Allow me to translate what that means in Hollywood: Meetings, and talks. But overall, it’s looking like positive progress.
Although it’s still a waiting game for Deadpool, fans of the Marvel mercenary will be happy to know that the team behind the project is still very passionate about bringing this movie to the big screen, best summed up in a quote from Miller who said, simply, “We will never give up!”
He also continued with, “Deadpool is still alive and we’re just waiting for the studio to fully realize what an AMAZINGLY FUCKING AWESOME film this would be. Ryan (Reynolds) is ready, I am ready, the fans are MORE than ready–we just need that elusive greenlight!”
Ryan Reynolds, who is set to star as the feisty comic book character, recently told Yahoo Movies that they are presenting Deadpool to Fox as a smaller budget project in hopes of encouraging the studio to take a chance on what’s likely to be a hard R-rated flick, one he describes as a “risky property.”
Tell me, fellow Deadpool fans, what do you think of the latest news on the project? Leave a comment below and let me know how long you’ve been waiting to see this movie happen, and what you’d like to see in it if and when it does.
