What to Wear in 2010

It’s so complicated to put together this list of the best of 2009 that can be worn in 2010. Remember every designer showcases his or her collection almost one year in advance, so we have a pretty clear picture of what the upcoming year will bring.

1. McQueenadillos. Are there any words to describe them? Is there such a possibility? This is pure fashion forwardness (if such a word exists). It’s design, it’s style, it’s what we fashionistas live for. They belong in a museum.

2. Burberry mini-trench coat. This look re-defines a classic, making it small, tight and not full arm-length.

3. Transparencies. Dior’s haute couture shows presented plenty, I show you a black Chanel by Lagerfield from his SS10 collection. I do not particularly like the hat, but everything else is classy.

4. Cinematic. Notice the hair, the make-up, the clothing. It’s all inspired in old Hollywood, and Galliano’s look through Dior’s collection showcases this remarkable time in a mini dress, floral and on high heels. Does this scream spring or what?

5. Rocker. If this decade reincarnated something, it’s the glam-rocker-vampire-emo look. Bring it to couture and you get something like Dolce and Gabanna’s darkness princesses.

6. Effortless. Diane Von Furstenberg’s effortless fashion is flawless. The cut, the lines, the fabric, the accessories. It’s so simple and colorful, no need for out-of-this-world gimmicks. Just pure fashion.

7. Re-vamp the little black dress. Chanel’s depiction of the little black dress has been re-vamped by several designers; yet, Gucci’s interpretation is one of my favorites. Add chains and gray and you end up futuristic chic.

8. Shoulders!!!! Biggest trend, yet not very fond of haute couture. Gaultier’s high shoulders, transparencies and tight waists seem to be a definite signature look. Can you pull it off?

9. Huge bags, funny shoes. The maxi bag is still a hit, yet, applications on the shoes, from feathers to stones, keep coming back. Marc Jacob’s LV collection speaks for itself.

10. Singers/Actors/Models/Reality TV stars turned designers. There’s a thousands, from Miley to Lauren Conrad to Whitney Port. Yet, Victoria Beckham’s flawless lines, eye for trends and fine tailoring conquers them all. Here a tight dress in black, appliqués on high shoulders and simple makeup.

Great runway trends, but I don’t like the first weird McQueen thing. Not wearable!

I have to disagree with the writer of this article who feels these fashions belong in a museam. With the exception of the Burberry coat,
Cinematic dress,Bohemian dress and the simple black long black gown the rest of these “fashions” belong in the rubbish bin.
I think the problem is that any reality star, pop singer or “B” television actress can start his or her own label with little or no knowledge of what fashion is and what type of silloutes and fabrics are appealing to women. Notice I said “women” not little girls with stick figures.
Does this happen in mens fashion or do the designers give men more respect?

None of the pieces of clothing are from “stars”, except for Victoria Beckham’s.
Also, please bear in mind Fashion is not just clothes, it becomes art and some of these pieces have transcended that boundary.
