Nicki Minaj’s latest music video “Anaconda” broke Vevo view count records and Ellen DeGeneres wants in. The day-time talk show host has placed herself in many movie scenes before, but this one is of a slightly different vibe. There is no doubt that one of this year’s themes is the butt. Whether it’s Miley Cyrus twerking or Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea’sBooty” remix. The “Anaconda” music video caught a lot of flack, due to the graphic level of booty shaking. At least Ellen gives us a more comical look at one of the wildest movements in pop culture. Watch the video below to see Nicki’s reaction to Ellen inserting herself in the rapper’s latest video.

Ghostbusters” is currently back in theaters for a limited run to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Everyone’s favorite cast member, Bill Murray, recently had an interview with The Toronto Star and shared his casting suggestions. There have been rumors that the upcoming “Ghostbusters III” film would revolve around a female ensemble. Murray recommended Melissa McCarthy, who he will be sharing the screen with soon in “St. Vincent.” He stated that she, “Would be a good fit for a role in the next “Ghostbusters” flick. His other suggestions included Emma Stone, Kristen Wiig, and Linda Cardellini. He followed with, “There are some funny girls out there.”

The original director of “Ghostbusters,” Ivan Reitman, commented on Paul Feig’s chances of sitting in the director’s chair for the new film. He is, “Fairly certain Feig will get the job.” Feig directed the 2011 comedy blockbuster, “Bridesmaids, ” which starred the two casting recommendations Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. Now that Murray has planted these casting choices in our head, it is all we can imagine. Dear casting director, make this happen!

Comedian Joan Rivers Dies At 81 http://thepopfix.com/2014/09/04/comedian-joan-rivers-dies-at-81/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/09/04/comedian-joan-rivers-dies-at-81/#comments Thu, 04 Sep 2014 21:32:15 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11108 joan rivers

It is sad to confirm that Joan Rivers has passed away. The 81-year-old comedian died peacefully after being in a medical induced coma, followed by life support. Rivers had previously went in for surgery on her vocal chords and became unresponsive. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, released the following statement regarding her mother’s passing.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.

My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

The current generation is more familiar with Rivers’ recent work on “Fashion Police” and her reality show “Joan & Melissa.” Older generations know Rivers for her stand up comedy. She was a trailblazer for many of today’s biggest female comedians. Here is a look at some of her early stand up.

Michael Cera Releases Surprise Indie-Folk Album http://thepopfix.com/2014/08/13/michael-cera-releases-surprise-indie-folk-album/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/08/13/michael-cera-releases-surprise-indie-folk-album/#comments Wed, 13 Aug 2014 21:06:48 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11012 Looks like the “Superbad” actor Michael Cera has released a surprise album. My first thought was, “This is probably going to be so hipster that it hurts.” “True That” has 18 songs that can be streamed via Bandcamp. It is currently categorized as Indie-Folk and consists of full songs that include vocals, yet many tracks are solely melodies. As much as I like to support everyone’s own art and not critique their hard work, I must say I am sadly not a fan of Cera’s musical side. If he happens to be looking to crossover into the music industry, I think that will be a very difficult road. I personally love his comedy and will continue to support him and his films. Take a listen below and tweet THEPOPFIX your opinion of Cera’s jam session-like album.

lonely island

The musical comedy stylings brought to you by The Lonely Island will soon be appearing on a movie screen near you. Yes that is right, the trio that has delivered viral hits such as, “I’m on a Boat,” “Dick in a Box,” and “Like a Boss.” The comedy group originally gained an audience via their musical comedy sketches on “Saturday Night Live.” After gaining huge success they started to release full albums of their own, where they ended up topping the charts each time. Now Universal is giving them the chance to shine on the big screen.

Group members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone will have a hand in the writing process and also co-star in the film. Judd Apatow is attached to produce the film, with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing. The movie is currently untitled, but the story-line is set to take place in the music world. The Lonely Island took over late night television and the internet, but can they rap their way to the top of the box office?

Continuing the art of being a musician-parodist, Yankovic has took on some of the most recent popular songs. He does this by skillfully criticizing today’s pop culture society, without personally attacking someone. Through his light humor we are able to laugh through popular songs that have made us go mad due to nonstop radio play. There will be a new music video every day of this week for the songs off of his album “Mandatory Fun.”

7 – 14: Today the world is gifted with the music video for the song “Tacky,” which is a parody of Pharrell’s hit track “Happy.” The video is full of celebrity cameos including Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black.

7 – 15: Yankovic has released the music video for “Word Crimes,” where he takes on bad grammar. Maybe one day he’ll ask Kristin Mineo to duet with him in an ultimate salute to the grammar police. Check out the music video below.

7 – 16:
Lorde may be new to the game, but she is still vulnerable to “Weird Al’s” parody ways. This time he is taking on her hit single, “Royals.” Watch the video below to understand his appreciation for aluminum foil.

7 – 17: Iggy Azalea’s top hit “Fancy” has also landed it’s spot on the album “Mandatory Fun.” Check out the parody of this song titled, “Handy.

7 – 21: Yankovic is calling out all those annoying office buzzwords and lingo. Watch below for the final video from his #8Days8Videos campaign with “Mission Statement.”

“Horrible Bosses 2″ Trailer Full Of Familiar Faces http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/02/horrible-bosses-2-trailer-full-of-familiar-faces/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/02/horrible-bosses-2-trailer-full-of-familiar-faces/#comments Wed, 02 Jul 2014 16:48:52 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10705 horrible bosses

It appears the whole gang is back for the sequel to the 2011 comedy, “Horrible Bosses.” Today we were gifted with the “Horrible Bosses 2” trailer, that promises laughter on top of laughter. In the first film Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis conspired to kill their bosses after realizing these evil bosses were causing them to be unhappy. Although these attempts didn’t go as planned, their outcome has appeared to make them feel like legit hardcore criminals.

This time around the trio is setting up to perpetrate a kidnapping, due to a slick investor getting in the way of them trying to start their own business. It’s great to see familiar faces from the first film such as, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Jamie Foxx. Also starring in this movie is Chris Pine of “Star Trek” and Christoph Waltz from “Django Unchained.”

The transition into the 2nd film looks as if it doesn’t skip a beat, take a look for yourself below.
