Taking second place this weekend is the follow up film to the 2013 movie, “The Purge.” This sequel changes the perspective and highlights the terrifying scenarios for those who are locked outside when the purge commences. On a much happier note, “Planes: Fire & Rescue” finished up the top 3 weekend box office rank with an estimated $18 million. Lacking in performance was Cameron Diaz & Jason Segal’s comedy film, “Sex Tape.” If you saw the film, tweet us your review and let us know why you think “Sex Tape” came in at number 4. Check out this weekend’s top grossing films in THEPOPFIX’s weekly installment of all things new at the box office!

“The Fault In Our Stars” Adapation Takes The Box Office http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/09/the-fault-in-our-stars-adapation-takes-the-box-office/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/09/the-fault-in-our-stars-adapation-takes-the-box-office/#comments Mon, 09 Jun 2014 19:23:42 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10488 There was no signs of weakness in John Green’s movie adaptation of “The Fault In Our Stars,” as it captured the top spot in this weekend’s box office. Audiences shed tears as they were filled with emotion in the very heartfelt film. Last week’s top ranker, “Maleficient,” had no need to shed a tear or two, coming in an honorable second in grossing. Tom Cruise’s “Edge Of Tomorrow” grabbed enough attention to bring in an estimated $29 million. This coming week a few of this summer’s highly anticaipatied movies will be making their debut, so expect some older films to no longer be in the top 10 grossing rank. If you’ve hit the theaters lately, send us your Twitter review and you could see it featured on our website. Check out this weekend’s top grossing films in THEPOPFIX’s weekly installment of all things new at the box office!

To Binge Or Not To Binge – The Ultimate Netflix Question http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/06/to-binge-or-not-to-binge-the-ultimate-netflix-question/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/06/to-binge-or-not-to-binge-the-ultimate-netflix-question/#comments Fri, 06 Jun 2014 20:21:03 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10460 During the last half of 2013 and the start of 2014, the public has been raving about Netflix’s original series. What sets these series apart is the fact that the whole new season gets uploaded at once, and if you have an account you have instant access. This concept has drove the world mad, due to a new trend of binge-watching. It’s almost like going on an alcoholic binge, either way the next day you don’t feel very well. With these productions normally premiering between 12am and 3am, depending on your timezone, majority of watchers decide to stay up all night long. The problem is, that horrible feeling when you have finished the whole series within one day and now you have to wait a year or more. That emptiness is our own damn fault. Netflix is basically wanting to teach us a good life lesson. They want to teach us all about self-control.

orange is the new black

Today “Orange is the New Black” season 2 premiered in full, thus allowing us to make that very choice I previously mentioned. Even though the official twitter account for “OITNB” tweeted us in support of staying up to watch the series, I fell asleep. Today I finished the first episode and I thought, to binge or not to binge? Luckily my day was so packed with errands, I had time to think. I am very bad for binge-watching, which I did with “House Of Cards” and “Hemlock Grove.” I’m attempting to now only watch one episode a day. As soon as a really epic episode comes on, I’m sure I’m going to end up losing all self control.

THEPOPFIX wants to know, will you be binge-watching the 2nd season of “OITNB?” Let us know on twitter!

Let’s see if today’s exciting announcement pushes you towards one more than the other. For all you Silver-Age Marvel comic fans, you’ll be excited to hear the director of their latest film has been announced. In what I assume will be a few years from now, you’ll be able to hit the theaters and see Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange up on the big screen.

strange

Doctor Strange” has landed the former director of “Sinister” and also the upcoming film, “Deliver Us From Evil.” Scott Derrickson posted the above photo on Twitter to officially announce his next film. Doctor Strange is a superhero film, but one of a man who was originally very selfish and egotistical. This successful neurosurgeon loses his abilities to perform surgery after a harmful car crash. His search for a way to restore his disabled hands, is the one that takes him down a path that ultimately leads him to the life of mystical arts.
