“Guardians” Of The Labor Day Box Office

The theaters lacked attention from the public this Labor Day weekend. Although there wasn’t the usual number of attendees, there will always be a box office king. “Guardians of the Galaxy” brought in another $16 million, holding it’s title of highest domestic grossing. “As Above, So Below” spammed social media with their promotional campaigns, but they only brought in an estimated $8 million this holiday weekend. The colorizing film, “The Giver” finished up the weekend with an estimated $5 million. Will the box office gross remain in the lower numbers, due to the lack of big blockbusters premiering in the following weeks?

“Sex Tape” Fails To Excite Movie Goers

“Apes” continues to showcase their dominance as they take the top spot again at this weekend’s box office. Matt Reeves has delivered another solid addition to the reinvented franchise. Taking second place this weekend is the follow up film to the 2013 movie, “The Purge.” This sequel changes the perspective and highlights the terrifying scenarios for those who are locked outside when the purge commences. On a much happier note, “Planes: Fire & Rescue” finished up the top 3 weekend box office rank with an estimated $18 million. Lacking in performance was Cameron Diaz & Jason Segal’s comedy film, “Sex Tape.”

“Transformers” Remains #1 Despite “Tammy”

“Transformers: Age of Extinction” continues to take the cake this holiday weekend. Even without Shia LaBeouf, they held the top spot for the 2nd week with an estimated weekend gross of $36,400,000. Melissa McCarthy’s road tripping comedy, “Tammy” took in an estimated $21,170,000. It appears that movie goers were too busy celebrating the 4th of July to catch the horror-thriller “Deliver Us From Evil,” or even the “E.T.” knockoff “Earth To Echo.”

“Maleficent” Reigns As Queen Of The Box Office

Angelina Jolie takes the last piece of May movie cake, as she tops the box office with the untold story of “Maleficent.” Disney worked their story-telling magic and pulled in an estimated $70 million over the weekend in ticket sales. Jolie was mesmerizing as a fairy filled with vengeance and may I also add that she pulled off the comedic lines quite well. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Seth MacFarlane’s “A Million Ways To Die In The West,” which only debuted with half of what “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” brought in during their second week of showing.
