Everyone’s favorite part-time rapper and part-time actor is transitioning into the world of voice overs. Donald Glover is best known for his comedic role on “Community” and his recent rap album “Because The Internet.” What was once a proposed idea by the people of Twitter, is now becoming a reality in Disney XD character Miles Morales, who is from the “Ultimate UniverseMarvel series. We’ll receive the opportunity to catch Glover as Spider-Man in “Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors.” Comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis has admitted that Glover was originally a part of the inspiration for the actual Morales character.

Spider-Man 3 & Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Release Dates Announced http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/24/spider-man-3-pirates-of-the-caribbean-5-release-dates-announced/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/24/spider-man-3-pirates-of-the-caribbean-5-release-dates-announced/#comments Thu, 24 Jul 2014 20:06:59 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10859 I believe movie goers no longer have a say in the creation of unnecessary movie remakes and reboots. We just have to accept the fact that this is the way our film industry currently is and they have no plans of letting up. You can see this from the upcoming movie release dates. While I personally really enjoy the new “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot, I’m not sure if I can say the same about another “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. Don’t get me wrong, I loved maybe the first three. The thought that we are receiving a 5th film, is an idea that I’m not 100% okay with.

Both Marvel & DC Comics have confirmed that they plan on releasing solo character films to coincide with the large blockbusters that are already established within the franchise. Columbia Pictures has announced that the “Sinister Six” film will be released on November 11th, 2016. “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” will be released following the Drew Goddard film in 2018. The PlayStation video game “Uncharted,” will land it’s official movie-adaptation release on June 10, 2016 a few months prior to “Sinister Six’s” release.

Moving on to a different studio, Walt Disney Pictures has announced that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will hit the big screen on July 7th, 2017. This will be a busy time with 20th Century Fox releasing the sequel to their future reboot of “The Fantastic Four.” Within the same release period Universal Pictures will release “Despicable Me 3.” Can Jack Sparrow hold his ground among minions and superheros?

Warner Bros Gives Life To “Arabian Nights” Franchise http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/23/warner-bros-gives-life-to-arabian-nights-franchise/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/07/23/warner-bros-gives-life-to-arabian-nights-franchise/#comments Thu, 24 Jul 2014 01:20:28 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10850
arabian nights

This update is for all you “Aladdin” fans out there. Disney is not making a live-action version of their 1992 film, but the chances to see young Aladdin appear in this franchise is highly likely. Warner Bros has taken claim to “The Arabian Nights” franchise. They have currently accepted an untitled script-ment from David Weil. Although the purchase seems that of an empty box, they basically have the foundation and rights to build a 7-part movie franchise.

The franchise’s inspiration will be the tales found in “The Arabian Nights.” This collection is also known as “One Thousand and One Nights,” which is made up of West and South Asian folk tales. Weil’s is wanting to paint period re-imaginations of familiar stories that can be found in “The Arabian Nights.” For those who are unaware, the story of Aladdin is from this collection. 3 Arts is currently the only producer and the project will be lead by Chantal Nong and Julia Spiro.

Shia LaBeouf Lost Without “Transformers?” http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/30/shia-labeouf-lost-without-transformers/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/30/shia-labeouf-lost-without-transformers/#comments Mon, 30 Jun 2014 22:54:22 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10658 Growing up I always enjoyed watching television shows or movies starring Shia LaBeouf. Whether it was Disney’sEven Stevens” or the first 3 films of the “Transformers” franchise. The 4th film, “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” was released this past week, which starred Mark Wahlberg instead of Shia LaBeouf. The film topped the box office with an impressive $100 million gross. Could the film’s success be the cause of LaBeouf’s latest disruptive antics?

shia 1

A video has recently been released showing LaBeouf attempting to fight a man outside a NYC strip club. A week after this event, the former “Transformers” star attended a showing of the Broadway play “Cabaret.” Unfortunately he failed to see the final act, because he was taken into custody after yelling obscenities at the actors and causing enough disruption to have the police called. Continuing this behavior he was then reportedly muzzled with a mask, due to spitting on officers during his curse-filled rant. Witnesses claim that while inside the theater he mentioned all the fortune he had and that everyone should know who he is. Those statements are ironic as we look back on his paper bag incident, where he claimed he was no longer famous and was retiring from public life. Liza Minnelli’s rep sent LaBeouf a DVD copy of the 1972 film adaptation of “Cabaret,” so he could see how it ended.

LaBeouf continued these immature acts when he visited one of his favorite restaurants, Local Peasant in Sherman Oaks. The restaurant’s manager found him urinating on the restaurant’s wall and was immediately asked to leave. Labeouf apologized and then stated that he would never return to the restaurant again. That deal was made concrete when the restaurant gave him a lifetime ban

Do all of these bizarre acts have something to do with “Transformers?” I’m sure it’s something much deeper than a film about robots, but we really do wish the best for him. I’m sure the press team of his next movie, “Fury,” are hoping he changes his ways as it gets closer to promo time. Plus audiences always love a Hollywood comeback.

“The Fault In Our Stars” Adapation Takes The Box Office http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/09/the-fault-in-our-stars-adapation-takes-the-box-office/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/09/the-fault-in-our-stars-adapation-takes-the-box-office/#comments Mon, 09 Jun 2014 19:23:42 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10488 There was no signs of weakness in John Green’s movie adaptation of “The Fault In Our Stars,” as it captured the top spot in this weekend’s box office. Audiences shed tears as they were filled with emotion in the very heartfelt film. Last week’s top ranker, “Maleficient,” had no need to shed a tear or two, coming in an honorable second in grossing. Tom Cruise’s “Edge Of Tomorrow” grabbed enough attention to bring in an estimated $29 million. This coming week a few of this summer’s highly anticaipatied movies will be making their debut, so expect some older films to no longer be in the top 10 grossing rank. If you’ve hit the theaters lately, send us your Twitter review and you could see it featured on our website. Check out this weekend’s top grossing films in THEPOPFIX’s weekly installment of all things new at the box office!

Disney Live-Action Remake Wishlist – POP 5 http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/05/disney-live-action-remake-wishlist-pop-5/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/05/disney-live-action-remake-wishlist-pop-5/#comments Thu, 05 Jun 2014 20:52:06 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10451 It seems Disney has no plans on halting with the live-action recreations of their classic tales. Audiences have shown that they want more, with “Maleficent” bringing in an estimated $70 million during it’s debut weekend. Disney gave us a sneak peek of the iconic glass slipper spotlighted in a teaser trailer of the upcoming live-action film version of “Cinderella.” While other rumors are flying around about “The Jungle Book” recreation, we can announce that Disney will be creating a live-action “Beauty and the Beast” film. Bill Condon currently has the title of director and Mandeville Films is set to produce the film. In celebration of this upcoming movie, we can’t help but center today’s POP 5 around Disney animated films we wish to see in live-action form.

Disney Live-Action Remake Wishlist – POP 5

beauty and the beast

5. “The Princess and the Frog”

First off, let’s not hire Tyler Perry to play the princess in this film. I think this film would be very easy to make and would be great for the culture that is New Orleans. Jennifer Hudson previously posed as Tiana for a Disney Dream Portrait series by Annie Leibovitz. Only task would be the creation of the little ole frog.

4. “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”

Now Universal previously released a live-action version of this film in 1923. It actually was the highest grossing silent film of theirs, bringing in $3 million. While this picture looks pretty frightening, we all know the hunchback isn’t supposed to be that attractive. I could see them take a darker approach to this film, which has plenty of evil and wrongdoing within it.

3. “Pocahontas”

Take a trip with me just around the riverbend, to a place where a tree gives out life-lessons. Since Disney let’s full ethnicity kinda slide in these films, example being Johnny Depp in “The Lone Ranger,” I have my Pocahontas actress choices. Naya Rivera from “Glee” has both the pipes and the looks. Then there is also the former Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger. I’ll sacrifice seeing some really good acting if either of those were picked.

2. “Aladdin”

Seriously, can you see the epic flying carpet and a mystical blue genie? If the budget was big enough, this movie would be epic! It could take us to a whole new world, literally. A little CG here and a little CG there, that’s all I’m asking for. Plus you know the guys will drool over Princess Jasmine and the girls would swoon over Aladdin himself. They had a monkeys in Disney’s “Oz the Great and Powerful,” so this could totally be possible.

1. “The Little Mermaid”

One word, mermaids. The whole idea of creating a world for actors that is either underwater or one that simulates water, is so intriguing! You know Ursula would be terrifying. I think there would be one director and one director only for this film and that is Tim Burton. Plus Disney has already visited the world of mermaids in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

“Maleficent” Reigns As Queen Of The Box Office http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/01/maleficent-reigns-as-queen-of-the-box-office/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/06/01/maleficent-reigns-as-queen-of-the-box-office/#comments Mon, 02 Jun 2014 05:06:35 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=10194 Angelina Jolie takes the last piece of May movie cake, as she tops the box office with the untold story of “Maleficent.” Disney worked their story-telling magic and pulled in an estimated $70 million over the weekend in ticket sales. Jolie was mesmerizing as a fairy filled with vengeance and may I also add that she pulled off the comedic lines quite well. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Seth MacFarlane’sA Million Ways To Die In The West,” which only debuted with half of what “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” brought in during their second week of showing. It’s now summer movie time, which means endless blockbusters. That being said, it’s doubtful to see a movie hold the number one spot for more than one week. After you hit the theaters make sure to send a tweet over to THEPOFPIX of your movie review, and you might just see it up on our site! Check out this weekend’s top grossing films in THEPOPFIX’s weekly installment of all things new at the box office!
