Christmas is just right around the corner and we are left asking ourselves, “Where did the season go?” For the world of retail stores, we’ve been forced to see Christmas items for the past few months. Along with all the gifts and decor came the music. As we come closer to the actual holiday I can assume most of you are very tired of hearing all the classic Christmas songs. Here is our POP 5 countdown of the Christmas Songs We Never Want To Hear Again.

POP 5 Christmas Songs

We Never Want To Hear Again

“All I Want For Christmas Is You”

I decided to start the countdown off with a song from recent years. It’s agreeable that Mariah Carey’s original recording of this track is one of the greats. For some reason this go around she decided to hop on Justin Bieber’s Christmas CD and created this. The music video for this song is the true horror though. It makes me think of those cases where teen boys get together and attempt to order a “dancer” while on vacation…it’s just an awkward watch.

“12 Days of Christmas”

My ears, my ears, my ears! This is one of those songs that requires participation. In family groups everyone is usually designated a number and when it’s your turn you have to sing your lines. We normally never remember the exact wordings, but when it comes down to number five we can belt, “FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!” The song is very repetitive and almost makes us want to grab a BB gun and shoot down that partridge in the pear tree.

“Christmas Shoes”

I actually had never heard of this song or movie before. This is a track about a young boy buying shoes for his sick mother. It’s really a strange depressing track by NewSong and just doesn’t fit with the joyful theme of Christmas. While I understand the overall message is nice, it’s just so sappy that one cannot hear it over and over again.

“Wonderful Christmas Time”

I’m swaying back and forth already. When Paul McCartney’s holiday classic starts blasting out of any speaker system, it’s as if we fall under this robotic Christmas spell. The song almost forces you to tell yourself that you are “Simply having a wonderful Christmas time.” Ding dong I’m feeling a bit loco now and my ears are bleeding.

“Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”

Do I even have to explain this one? The comedic track was recorded by the duo Elmo & Patsy back in 1979. While this track was funny the first time I heard it on the radio as a child, I change the station as soon as I hear it now. Let’s allow grandma to rest in peace and not bring up her tragic death every Christmas season.
