Are We Ready For “The ExpendaBelles”
With the popularity of “The Expendables” franchise we’ve seen no shortage of male-dominated action star casts on the big screen. And yet, although we’re treated to the occasional lady in the line-up, it’s been quite some time since we’ve seen an all-female crew kick some ass in a major feature film…until now.
In an interview with Bulgarian publication, Standart, producer Avi Lerner dropped hints that Hollywood heavyhitters like Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz, and Milla Jovovich may be in talks to star in the female answer to “The Expendables” titled (excuse me if I gag) “The ExpendaBelles.”
…because what else would they call it?
The article goes on to say that this film will pack just as much punch as it’s male movie counterpart, and that they are currently in search of a female director to take on the script penned by “Legally Blonde” writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith.
If this news is sounding all too familiar, you’re probably thinking of a similar rumored female Expendables project from “The Grey” producer Adi Shankar that was announced last year with Gina Carano, and Katee Sachoff, attached. To clarify, these are indeed two separate projects, although we have no word on a tentative title for Shankar’s intended film, nor has there been any recent news on how far along production has come on this competing project.
What say you? Are we overdue for one mega female action movie? Maybe two?
All I know is if Michelle Rodriguez isn’t involved in one of them, THEPOPFIX will be highly disappointed.
