The Midnight Coterie Of Sinister Intruders: SNL’s Wes Anderson Horror Parody That Most Definitely Needs to Happen
Too often in Hollywood artists get pigeonholed. Comedians rarely get to take on dramatic roles (but to be fair, did you see “The Number 23?”) and dramatic actors aren’t always known for their comedy skills which just another reason why Tom Hanks wins acting forever. This challenge applies behind the camera as well but it can be super awesome when directors dip their toe into the genre pool and attempt to go for a walk on the cinematic wild side.
For instance, it made all the sense in the world for indie director Kimberly Pierce to take a stab at horror with October’s “Carrie” remake! Unfortunately, the results were, in the opinion of this nerd, no bueno. A disaster. Colossal waste of talent.
Did I mention I didn’t like it?
But! That doesn’t mean we should stop trying and it looks like the folks at SNL agree as this weekend they gave us “The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders” – a parody imagining of a Wes Anderson home invasion flick.
Major shout out to host Ed Norton (See?! A dramatic actor who is funny!) for his spot on Owen Wilson impression and to Jay Pharoah for managing to steal the sketch with one line as Danny Glover.
What do you think? Would you like to see a Wes Anderson horror film? I know there have been times where I wouldn’t have minded Margot Tanenbaum’s head in a box…
Enjoy!
