“Mortal Kombat” Reboot: Game Over?
It’s a sad day for gamers, geeks, and those of us who have simply been anxiously awaiting a reboot of the 1995 so-bad-it’s-good movie classic, “Mortal Kombat.”
Two years ago New Line Cinema announced it had plans to bring MK back to the big screen with “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” and “Legacy” director Kevin Tancharoen attached. It seemed like a match in fanboy heaven, until last weekend when the would-be helmer took to his Twitter account to officially announce his departure from the project.
Tancharoen, who also directed 2009′s “Fame” and “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” secured his “Mortal Kombat” gig after directing the MK inspired short “Rebirth” in 2010 and the “Legacy” web series that followed. But after two seasons of the series, and severing ties with the feature, it looks like this guy’s ready to “finish” his time being connected to the popular video game franchise.
With no mention of the status of the movie, and no word on if another director will be taking his place, could it be game over for the MK reboot?
We’ll keep you updated as more information as it’s released.
