It is sad to confirm that Joan Rivers has passed away. The 81-year-old comedian died peacefully after being in a medical induced coma, followed by life support. Rivers had previously went in for surgery on her vocal chords and became unresponsive. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, released the following statement regarding her mother’s passing.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.
Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.
My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”
The current generation is more familiar with Rivers’ recent work on “Fashion Police” and her reality show “Joan & Melissa.” Older generations know Rivers for her stand up comedy. She was a trailblazer for many of today’s biggest female comedians. Here is a look at some of her early stand up.
Imagine this crossover film, Hermione Granger of “Harry Potter” becomes tired of magically fixing Harry Potter’s glasses and decides to start working for Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games.” Hermione has already battled Lord Voldemort, so she would be a great help in taking down the Capitol. She could tag along and mend all of Katniss’ broken arrows. The duo would become the dream team and be fantasized over by every single boy out there. Unfortunately, this crossover film will never happen, but they gave us a consolation prize.
Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Watson both attended the latest Dior Fashion Show. They sat nearly beside each other and posed for photos afterward. They gave us a glimpse of what that crossover film could of been like, and even a glimpse into a totally different imaginable plot. Move over “Freddy vs. Jason,” its time for “Katniss vs. Hermione.” JLaw was her usual playful self, and decided to face-palm Emma. The photo is everything, and I dare the internet to bring on the memes!

“Telling you something that has broken my heart, the man who made all my costumes since 1972 decided he couldn’t do my last tour.”
Truth be told, we’re a little heartbroken too.
It’s like four decades of moments like these mean nothing to some people.
So, why the abrupt ending to all the sequined bliss? Cher’s Twitter account sheds a little light on this matter as well…
She certainly sounds upset. But the show must go on.
Cher’s “Dressed To Kill” tour starts March 22, 2014.
We know – it’s an annoying tradition. Why should anyone be punished with a pinch for not wearing green just because it’s March 17th? Can’t we all just celebrate in non-coordinating color schemes? After all, no other holiday has a dress code reinforced by the pinching-police.
In an effort to help you avoid the St. Patty’s Day pinchers, here are some fresh, and fun ways to work some green into your wardrobe this spring – without looking like you just jumped off a box of Lucky Charms.
1. For the girl on the go – the simple scarf
What’s more simple, classic, and chic than a scarf? If it’s versatility you’re looking for, it’s the ultimate accessory. Fold it into a headband, tie it around your neck, or loop it through the handle of your favorite purse – and voila! Working green into your wardrobe has never been this easy. Try out this Jonathan Adler Dip Dye Scarf in Mint/Turquoise from Nordstrom.com, for $118.00.
2. For the commitment phobe – the crossbody bag
For a hint of green that you can put on, take off, or sling around the back of a chair like you just don’t care, try a crossbody bag in a pale mint green. This woven leather purse is the perfect way to casually wear St.Patrick’s color, without technically “wearing” it. Fossil’s Sydney Crossbody in Mint is available at Macys.com for $128.00.
3. For the sophisticate – the elegant earring
The pub doesn’t have to be your scene in order to make a scene in green this St. Patrick’s Day. Add a pop of color to an all black, white, or neutral wardrobe with the help of these 18k yellow gold Irene Neuwirth earrings set with rose cut chrysoprase and diamonds, available at Barneys.com for $1960.00.
I hope you’ve been saving up your allowance…
4. For the party girl – the neon wayfarers
Plan on spending your St. Patty’s Day partying? Stay out all day, or all night, in these neon wayfarer sunglasses. Featuring colored mirror lenses and a matte finish, these retro sunnies are the perfect way to showcase your seasonal spirit in a way that won’t break the bank if you happen to lose them after a long night at the pub. Pick up these neon wayfarers at Forever21.com for just $5.80.
5. For the classy broad – the sexy silhouette
For a look that’s just as classic as it is sexy, stand out in a mint green silhouette with chic lace panels for an elegant look that works for day or night. Try BCBG’s Maude Boatneck Dress for a timeless look with flirty details that show off a hint of skin, listed at $298.00 at BCBG.com.
A wave of excitement has surrounded the beautiful actress since her continued roles on Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story.” I am always in awe of her acting talents and her natural beauty in each nerve-racking episode I watch. Lange appeared on Ellen recently where she spoke about people getting ecstatic when recognizing her in public and she claims that has never happened to her before.
It is very possible that after next season, Lange will be taking a break from acting and will not return for the 5th season. So to ease that pain, I have a fun fact that will get you back in the mood. Writer Brad Falchuk said there is a clue in the finale of Coven in reference to the 4th season’s theme that no one has caught on to yet. We do know Lange is already practicing her German accent!
THEPOPFIX couldn’t be happier for Lange and it all is more evidence that she is the true supreme!
Yes, this blog is just for the ladies…sorry fellas. As for the guys, here’s my only tip – wear a tie. It does wonders.
Jewel Tones
These bright hues are all the rage in dresses and also in footwear. You know you’ve eyed that pair of sapphire pumps in Macy’s. The fact that jewel tones work so well in clothing and footwear gives you some options here. Be on the hunt for jewel tone colors that will pop against your skin. There are some gorgeous deep cranberry, emerald green and gorgeous sapphire colors out there that are sure to make you the talk of the holiday party.
Not in the mood for a loud ensemble? You can always go the route of a simple, classic black dress – and then add the pop of color with the jewel tone shoes in purple, blue, green or red – BAM!
Sparkle in Sequins
I know what you’re thinking – sequins, really? YES! It doesn’t have to be a bedazzled nightmare, sequins can be done very tastefully to accentuate holiday glamor. Like here with a beautiful dress worn by Emma Roberts. The entire look shines, rather than looking over-the-top tacky. Plus, you can get extra mileage out of it for New Years Eve too!
Black & Gold
Yes, you may think it screams 80s prom night – but give it another chance. Actually, for the holidays there couldn’t be a more perfect pairing. Black hinges the looks, while the gold accents the ensemble making you glow brighter than all the Christmas lights.
Asymmetrical Shape
Is it possible for a dress silhouette and shape to be a trend? Oh yes.
Asymmetrical style dresses have been all the rage along the red carpet all year long, and this trend is going to follow us right into the Holiday season. It’s flattering on every shape and looks just as elegant as a strapless dress – except you don’t have to keep lifting it up all night long. Can I get an “Amen!” to that one?
Hot Colors: Slate Gray and Plum
You can either pair together these two complementary colors, or you can choose to wear them separate. Nothing looks quite as striking and old Hollywood glam like a slate gray getup – but remember there’s a big difference between subdued gray hue and silver.
Best of luck finding that perfect Holiday dress!
“You make the world your office. You branch out and give back. The way that people are now shopping and mixing clothes up – Topshop to Prada to Michael Kors – you have to live your life that way. You have to mix the high and the low. The Vogue offices are full of what I call very angular women wearing stilettos, and maybe that’s just the consciousness – that people think that they need this look when they work at Vogue. But Grace Coddington does not fit that mold and she’s elegant. Look at Michelle Obama, she’s the most fashionable woman in America. But she’s not a fashion plate.” – André Leon Talley
Recently, André Leon Talley graced Time Out New York with a short interview, probably as part of Anna-Goddess-Wintour’s strategy to promote “The September Issue,” the documentary of her work on Vogue’s largest issue ever, September 2007′s.
Even though it’s a very uninteresting interview, it does convey an important reality: people should mix and match designer and regular brands in order to look cool without having to spend money they do not have. I have done this before, as any fashionista, and there are some tips I am more than willing to share (especially because I know 99% of the humanity has no clue whatsoever on how to dress).
1) Always wear a good top.
Never, ever wear cheap looking upper clothes. The reason is simple. When trousers are cheap, it’s often not that obvious because denim is the most ordinary of clothes. Yet, if a shirt is not consciously elaborated, it will show.
2) Cheap shoes should go to hell.
The design, the material, the sewing. It’s too easy to notice when shoes are cheap, so don’t do Payless, as shown below…see?
3) Accessories can come from the uptown mall or downtown flea market.
The cheaper, the better. Go vintage, go green, go whatever because there is nothing wrong, especially now, from plastic to gold, everything goes.
4) Things should be fitted even if they are old.
You can go for vintage blazers, but never ever wear them as if they were coats! Blazers can be both old or new, but always with a good fitted cut.
I hope these tips will help you next time you go out shopping. Remember you don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks.
