Five Female Pop Culture Phenoms of 2011
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about these women who dominated our media airwaves this year. These are the five ladies who made the list of Female Pop Culture Media Phenomenons of 2011.
1. Casey Anthony
She’s the infamous Florida mom that America loved to hate as we religiously tuned in to her trial and freely expressed our shock as she was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The trial and controversial verdict kept Casey Anthony in our media airwaves throughout 2011, and it’s not over yet! The now reclusive Anthony may resurface again soon, as it’s reported she’s negotiatingwhat could end up being a $750,000 deal for her first post-trial interview.
2. Amanda Knox
Amanda Knox, or “Foxy Knoxy” as dubbed by the Italian press, became the poster child for study abroad horror stories when she was accused of murdering her roommate, Meredith Kercher. After spending four years in an Italian jail, Knox was released this October when the murder conviction was overturned. Not only did Knox become a bigger media sensation this year, but her story was also recreated as a Lifetime movie, starring Hayden Panettiere. Reportedly, both Knox and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollectio (also accused of murder) have book deals in the works.3. Emma Stone
Emma Stone’s got a career as red hot as her stunning hair. With popular movies like “The Help” and “Crazy, Stupid Love” under her belt in 2011, we’re convinced the sky’s the limit for this talented 23-year-old actress. Expect to see much more of her in 2012, as she’s been hard at work filming three movies scheduled for release next year, including “The Amazing Spider-Man” where she plays the female lead, Gwen Stacy. Also, be on the look out for her upcoming campaigns as a new face of Revlon.4. Nicki Minaj
She came to win, and she certainly did! Rapper, fashionista, and eccentric personality, Nicki Minaj, had a year chock full of breakthrough moments. Riding on the success of her #1 album, “Pink Friday,” she joined iconic pop star Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale Tour, was named rising star of the year by Billboard, and wrapped up 2012 with a Grammy nom for Best New Artist. Not one to rest on her laurels, Minaj has also been in the studio, working on her next album scheduled for release in 2012.
5. Pippa Middleton
Move over Kim Kardashian, there’s a new booty in town! Pippa Middleton was the unexpected break-out star of the royal wedding as she turned heads in an Alexander McQueen dress when her famous sister Kate tied the knot with Prince William this year. Suddenly, this 28-year-old party planner and socialite is being watched as a trend setter, followed by the paparazzi, and has become international tabloid fodder. Although there’s little known about this British beauty, we can’t help but buy into the mystery and intrigue of the girl who stole the royal show in the white dress!
