Leona Lewis Tops Charts, Oprah is God

British singing sensation Leona Lewis, has done more than just arrive in America, she’s taking it by storm. Her sensational single “Bleeding Love” officially topped the Billboard top 100 chart on Thursday, making her the first British woman to claim the top spot in 21 years.

The coveted spot was last occupied by a female Brit when Kim Wilde’s “You Keep Me Hanging On” reached number one in 1987. It’s almost unbelievable that so much time has elapsed since a female solo act from across the Atlantic has been able to climb the American charts all the way to the top.

Leona Lewis burst onto the pop scene in 2006 after appearing on a UK reality competition, “X-Factor,” which she went on to win. In two short years the 22-year-old songstress has generated international talk that she’s the next pop superstar. Lewis has already been compared to divas like Whitney Huston and Mariah Carey. Lewis considers this an astounding compliment, and has said, “They’re so amazing and I could only hope to one day follow in their footsteps.”

Not only does this prove that the killer combo of a catchy song, a gorgeous face and the talent to back it up can bring you instant success, but it confirms my long-standing theory that Oprah is a deity. Not surprisingly, the Lewis surge to the top occurred just days after her appearance on Oprah. American Idol judge Simon Cowell introduced Lewis to Oprah and ergo, the world, on March 18th. Nine days later, “Bleeding Love” hits number one.

Coincidence?

Oprah must be King Midas because everything she touches turns platinum. It’s enough to make me wonder if there were any big trends in the past 10 years weren’t the product of an Oprah endorsement? Think about it; Uggs. “A Million Little Pieces.” Barack Obama.

The Leona Lewis album “Spirit” is set for its US release on April 8th, and if Oprah’s stamp of approval is any indication, The Pop Fix smells a smash hit.
