Beckham’s Spring 2010 Collection Shows Improvement From The Past
Victoria Beckham presented a new collection and for those of you who thought this air-headed princess would never amount to more than being a hot housewife/retired pop star, this is the third time in a row that the New York critics have applauded her efforts.
In my opinion, this collection shows progress. I do not think she is ready to present in a big fashion week event, but she is working her way toward it. She shows different silhouettes from the ones she used in her previous collections. She has moved on from her inspiration in rather insipid colors, to bold, all-conquering dresses that, finally, are not tight like a Velcro band.
Yes, she plays it safe. She observes trends and uses them to portray her personal style in the collections she presents. No, she is not as “fresh” or “different” as Gaultier or Galliano, but she definitely has learned from what she sees.
There are some particular choices I respect the most. Like a small dress in three colours and just a little shade of orange that has a certain Marc Jacobs inspiration, but takes it further with a more wearable, futuristic, and less 80’s inspired.
She keeps her signature tight dress, now in a lively color, and enormous shoes.
However, the white ensemble has the model struggling to get some air! This is my least favorite, because regardless of her attempts, she is still challenged by the ghosts of her past collections, something common for the inexperienced designer. I mean, if it ain’t broken, why fix it?
Finally, reminiscent to those magnificent long dresses for red carpets of the early 2000’s (that some designers like Lagerfeld do consider inadequate for current fashion), she shows two gowns in black and red (almost Valentino-ish) that actually place her closer to being considered haute-couture than the rest of her collection. I would rather see her try something riskier, but that does not take the beauty away from these pieces.
Would you buy any of these?
nice clothes but do they come in any size larger than size 0?
Of course!!!!
You can find the collection online in a few locations, but it’s not all size 0, it goes to 8 I believe (though I have only found up to 6 browsing online)
