The Village Idiot: Temporary Escape from America
The Village Idiot is a watering hole for tourists and Angelenos who desperately wish they were one. If you’re craving a hearty meat pie and a pint of Guinness, you’d probably find sanctuary in this Melrose pub. One step inside The Village Idiot and you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported to the local Oxfordshire restaurant/pub/bar (with much better food, though).
I recently spent an evening at The Village Idiot with good company. By good company I mean an old friend and a black and tan. After scanning the menu, we ordered some entrees. Unlike most salads I’ve had in England, the dressed bed of lettuce ordered by my companion actually looked appetizing. No offense to my British mates!
As the night progressed, the bar started to fill with an interesting crowd. On a short trip to the bathroom, I heard three different languages. My dining companion explained it best, “It’s like foreigners purposely seek this place out, or something.” I couldn’t agree more. If I were a traveling member of the United Kingdom, I’d probably stop by too.
Both the food and drink menus appeared to be extensive, although I did not have the time to sample much from either. However, everything I tried (even everything I saw other people try) looked fantastic.
In summation, this pub is a relaxed hangout perfect for those who avoid fussy dining and bar settings, and for those who wish they could spend a summer in the English countryside…don’t we all? Come to The Village Idiot and you won’t be disappointed.
This place is hot, and cool…a little pricey.
