On February 6th, Nickelodeon revealed its list of nominees for the 2009 Kid’s Choice Awards. Among the predictable tween and teen favorites like Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers was Katy Perry, nominated in the Favorite Song category for her smash hit “I Kissed a Girl,” an ode to sexual curiosity wrapped in a punchy-pop package.

Perry’s controversial single has had a big year, propelling her from a virtual unknown to an international superstar. Not only did “I Kissed a Girl” garner a Grammy nomination this year, but it also shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 where it stayed for seven weeks, boosting her power pop album, “One of the Boys” to platinum success. “I Kissed a Girl” became the most viewed music video of 2008 on social networking powerhouse, MySpace. According to Perry’s website, the song has sold more than six million tracks worldwide. The Kid’s Choice Award nomination is just icing on the cake.

It’s undeniable that Katy Perry and her catchy single have had an enormous year. But a Kid’s Choice Award? It will be certainly interesting to see if the kid’s vote it as their favorite song of the year.

Sign of the times?
