“Yes Man” is a No…and Other Movie Reviews
The Tale of Despereaux: Opened December 19, 2008 | Runtime: 1 hr. 34 min.
Cast: Matthew Broderick, Robbie Coltrane, Frances Conroy, Tony Hale, Ciarán Hinds
“Small Mouse. Big Dreams” is the slogan that accompanies the movie posters all around town. This slogan is the best representation of the film because Despereaux is a little mouse born with so many big hopes and dreams that he wants to leave the safety of his mouse life. The minute Despereaux enters the scene with his oversized ears the audience will swoon. He is a fierce knight trapped in the body of a mouse and he befriends Princess named Pea who teaches him how to read, allowing him to explore a world of fantasy, knights, and dragons. Like many happy-go-lucky animated films, all ends well, but the film takes us on a fun journey with the cutest cartoon character, Despereaux. I was so engrossed with Despereaux I could not takes my eyes off the screen. Definitely SEE IT with your family, friends, little cousins, whoever will see it with you because Despereaux is so CUTE.
Bedtimes Stories: Opened December 25, 2008 | Runtime: 1 hr. 35 min
Cast: Adam Sandler, Keri Russell, Guy Pearce, Russell Brand, Richard Griffiths
In an interview with Variety, Adam Sandler says “I want to make movies my kids and I can enjoy together.” With Bedtime Stories, he has really achieved that goal. Adam Sandler is a handyman at a high-end hotel following in his father’s footsteps. When his sister goes out of town, she leaves her children with him. To entertain the kids at night he tells them tall tales/bedtime stories that somehow come true. My favorite scene is when it starts to rain gumballs in the middle of the day. The story travels to different locations around the world and is a true escape for the audience. I love a movie that is a great escape, SEE IT and you will really escape.
Yes Man: Opened December 19, 2008 | Runtime: 1 hr. 44 min.
Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, John Michael Higgins, Rhys Darby
I was walking around Barnes & Noble with a friend when I saw the book “Yes Man,” on which the movie is based. The book is written by Carl Allen who took it upon himself to say “yes” to everything, no matter what. Based on a true story, this movie was more fun because everything he does was really done by Carl. In the beginning of the film, Carl is a loner who says “no” to everything, but once he starts to say “yes,” his life begins. He meets the quirky character played by Zooey Deschanel (who is my favorite actress ever). In my opinion, she makes the movie great because without her it’s just a typical slapstick comedy. Jim Carrey does his usual round of face distorting comedy, but somehow it falls short because he just looks like an old guy trying to make people laugh. I would recommend RENTing it to spruce up an otherwise boring Tuesday night, but don’t pay $$ to see it in the theaters.
omg i so agree!!!!!!!
