THE POP FIX Pick: Paul Dateh

Dateh’s unique brand of soul-searching has already caught the attention of Public Enemy and Run DMC, and his violin virtuoso can be head running smoothly over tracks by Keli and resident DJ Inca. At a time when Lil Wayne is trying to break traditional genre boundaries with rock song “Prom Queen,” Dateh’s already two steps ahead, one doo-bop scat above the norm. For his perfect pitch, vocal dexterity and undeniable passion, THE POP FIX predicts this Renaissance music man will be one to look out for in the very near future.

Ron Howard: Director…Actor…High Roller

What, you may ask, is illustrious director, actor and altogether Hollywood badass Ron Howard up to these days? A rap video, of course! In a highly strange and, well, altogether amazing turn of events, Jamie Foxx’s new music video for the song “Blame It” features a cast of cameos that would make “Tropic Thunder” jealous. No, no Tom Cruise here, he’s too busy being a pompous asshole. But we do have cameos by, and you may need brace yourself here; Jake Gyllenhaal, Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker and the aforementioned Ron Howard supplementing Foxx’s ghetto-fab ode to everyone’s favorite drug, alcohol! It is unnerving at first to see Howard in such a strange setting but, come on, Richie Cunningham lived a pretty thug life himself back in the day.

Following In My Foosteps, Lady Gaga Says “No” to Playboy

Apparently I have a lot more in common with pop diva, Lady Gaga, than a love for wacky fashion statements. Recently, she also shot down the idea of posing for Playboy. The pop diva wants to remain famous for penning pop songs catchy enough to make the Lennon/McCartney song writing duo jealous, rather than being nude.

Gisele and Tom Tie the Knot

They denied engagement rumors, dodged the media, got married on their own terms. The football star and Victoria’s Secret model got married in Santa Monica last night, and this is not exciting or important at all…other than the fact that the Brangelina brats now have some competition for the “best looking kids” award.

Dollar Menus, Film Business Share Drinks Over Recession Success

Recession? What recession? Box office profits have proven to be virtually invincible to the recent economic downfall with revenue in 2009 commanding a whopping 23.2% increase over this time last year. Meanwhile, with an increasingly agitated unemployed workforce, dollar menus at popular fast food venues, such as McDonalds, are reaping the benefits of a broke populous. McDonalds reported a sales jump of nearly eight percent due to the affordable options presented on its “Dollar Menu” such as the McChicken Sandwich.

THE POP SHOP: Gold Investment

Jewelry is a fashion item that doesn’t particularly adhere to any trends, and can instantly brighten up or update a tried-and-true look. Case in point-everyone remembers Angelina Jolie’s emerald jewels from Sunday’s Oscar ceremony; her dress was nothing to rave about. In lieu of miniature golden men being awarded to blinged-out actresses in their thousand-dollar dresses this past Sunday, and the increasing value of gold in the market, investing in a new piece of gold jewelry (faux or not) shouldn’t hurt your bank account as much as the “of-the-moment” fringed dress.

This Poor Model Wore Rats On Her Face

London Fashion Week ended on a positive note, with strong collections from fresh designers making their debut on the runway. But Charlie Le Mindu’s rat headdress might have caused a few audience members to forgo eating for the rest of the day. Made from a dozen rat carcasses, this headdress seemed to be more of an artistic statement than a fashion statement. It takes the already prevalent use of animal parts in fashion to a whole different level – a level I hope is NEVER revisited ever, ever again.

COMPLETE FASHION WEEK REVIEW: In London, the Future is in the 80′s

London’s designers are usually in their own world, unaffected and untouched by Paris, Milan or New York, but this time around, I wanted to know… did a large majority of them get together with their fellow New York designers to have tea and crumpets while all unanimously deciding to focus on 80′s grunge?
