Valentine’s Day is approaching fast and you’re starting to freak out because you have waited until last minute to grab a gift for your significant other or crush. As it turns out you are also still broke from joining the gym after you made that “get fit” resolution. On top of all that you just recently filed your taxes and it turns out you have to pay a penalty for not having insurance. What to do, what to do? Even if your partner is claiming they understand and that they don’t want any kind of presents, you know they still are expecting and honestly deserve something no matter what. Don’t fret, THEPOPFIX has compiled 5 V-Day gifts that you can pick up with just that crumpled up Andrew Jackson in your pocket.

5. Assorted Chocolate Basket

Yeah this may sound lame, but it’s food! I know one way to my heart is to be presented with tasty treats. Since it’s Valentine’s Day the best way to go about filling your basket full of goodies would be keeping to the theme of chocolate. Oreo has released a new red velvet version of their famous cookie. Next add in a giant 7oz Hershey’s milk-chocolate kiss. Feel free to then toss in a few of the ever so satisfying heart shaped Reese’s peanut butter cups. Finish your basket off with a small box of Whitman’s sampler chocolates. You don’t have to spend $100 on some edible bouquet, this will do just fine!

4. The Five-Minute Journal:

A journal…for Valentine’s Day? While it may not sound like the usual gift, it’s one your partner will really appreciate. The Five-Minute Journal is a gift that is designed to increase happiness and overall well being. Life is rough and we all need a way to escape and take time to think about our day. The problem is we never have the time. This journal only takes 5 minutes out of your day and allows you to start your day off on the right note, build on your sense of gratitude, and finish the night be releasing all negativity. This is a great relationship tool and can help bring more joy and even romance into your relationship. The hard-cover version of this book sits a couple dollars over at $23, but you can get the paperback version for around $13.

3. Ellen Underwear:

For the bedroom I’m choosing a gift that’s a bit kinky, but really just more functional.  We all love to watch Ellen and we all secretly want our own pair of Ellen underwear. I think a lot of people forget that you don’t have to be a celebrity to get a pair. Ellen’s shop offers both male & female underwear with assorted designs. Since it’s Valentine’s Day you might as well get matching ones! Women’s $15 – Men’s $20.

2. Bad Ass Candles:

A candle is a standard romantic gift. They create relaxing environments and if you pick the right one it will put off a great aroma. Bad Ass Candles are the perfect candles if your partner has a great sense of humor or also that crush you want to get a gift for, but are afraid for it to come off to forward. This company produces candles that are creative and funny. The candles are made out of all-natural vegan soy wax and sit inside an 8oz Rock Glass container. For decor they feature sayings such as, “I F’N Love You! Especially Naked” and “You’re Soy Amazing – Don’t Let It Go To Your Head.” Once the candle wax is all gone you can reuse the glass because it’s basically a whiskey glass. It’s a pretty win-win situation for only $18.

1. Birchbox:

Monthly subscription boxes are all the rage right now. It’s like those little dollar store mystery grab bags we used to buy as kids. There is just something exciting about receiving a package of goodies…even if you paid for it yourself. Birchbox is one of the most popular subscription boxes. They offer fun boxes filled with beauty, grooming, and lifestyle samples for both women & men. The best thing about these boxes is that you can customize them to be tailored to you. Women’s Box: $10 Monthly – Men’s Box: $20 Monthly.

Juice Like A Celebrity http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/juice-like-a-celebrity/ http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/juice-like-a-celebrity/#comments Fri, 23 Jan 2015 21:37:40 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11428 martha

“New year, new me.” Many of us in the new year set goals to become more productive, to eat healthier, or even simple achievements like setting time aside to watch more movies. When trying to figure out how to get your body in the ideal shape a good diet is key. One of the most common ways of finding out diet secrets is by seeing Hollywood stars try them out. Some of the celebrity diet trends may not be as accessible for the non elite, but there is one trend that is easily doable for everyone. Juicing is a healthy alternative way of consuming larger amounts of fresh fruit and produce. Testimonial benefits of juicing include increased energy, weight loss, hair growth, and glowing skin. Another awesome aspect to juicing is for those who don’t exactly enjoy eating all these key fruits and vegetables, but by combining these in juiced form gives the ability to receive all the important daily vitamins needed to feel up your daily fuel tank.

Celebrities that have been seen juicing are Blake LivelyGwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Richie, Russell Simmons, and Megan Fox. There are two ways you can go about juicing yourself. If you want to have a hands on approach in creating your own juice concoctions then you can purchase your own electric juicer. For those short on time many stores and restaurants offer pre-made specialty juices. With kale being a popular ingredient along with other green vegetables, most juiced beverages are referred to as “green juice.”

Naked_Juice

Popular green juice brands include: Naked, Suja, BluePrint, Odwalla, and Orangic Avenue. Below are a few recipe ingredient lists that you try out in your juicer at home to be on par with one of the latest celebrity trends.

1 cup kale
2 Swiss chard leaves
1/2 cup parsley
1/2 small beet
1/2 cup pineapple
2 green apples (use red for sweeter flavor)
1 sprig fresh mint
1/2 lemon, peeled

_____________________________________________________________________

1 medium apple (8 ounces), cored and cubed
2 medium soft pears (such as Bartlett), cored and cubed (about 1 pound total)
1/2 cup cherries (fresh with pits removed or frozen and thawed)

_____________________________________________________________________

1 medium apple (3″ dia)
3 medium carrots
1 handful cilantro
1 cup, chopped collard greens
4 kale leaves (8-12″)
1 medium sweet red pepper (approx 2-3/4″ long, 2-1/2 dia.)

If you try any of these juices out let us know what you think on Facebook!

POP 5 Apps To Amp Up Your Productivity This January http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/pop-5-apps-to-amp-up-your-productivity-this-january/ http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/pop-5-apps-to-amp-up-your-productivity-this-january/#comments Fri, 23 Jan 2015 21:36:24 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11411 As we lead into the final weeks of January the common question being asked is whether or not we have held on to our new year’s resolution. A very popular resolution for the new year is to be more productive. If you’ve been able to do just that in the past few weeks then kudos to you, but for those who have hit a wall THEPOPFIX is here to help. Kicking the first month of the year off feeling empowered will give you the ability to carry all that success with you for the remaining months of 2015. If you have a lot on your plate or you just want to be able to accomplish more daily, the following phone apps will make the transition into a life of productivity so much easier.

POP 5 Apps To Amp Up

Your Productivity This January

apps

Sleep Better

This app is from the parent app Runtastic. If you are lacking in the energy department then your productivity level will be at a massive low. Stop yawning at the desk and let’s get some work done. You can track and improve the quality of your slumber and even monitor your dreams. The app is simple to use and offers different ways of reviewing your sleep history. All you have to do is set your alarm and lay the calibrated phone down beside your pillow.  With enhanced statistical sleep logs you will be able to learn which daily aspects to alter in order to increase your sleep quality. Getting things done will be much easier if you wake up refreshed.

7 Minute Workout

Staying active goes hand in hand with a great night’s rest. Also finding the motivation to get up and exercise will provide you with drive to get all your other daily errands out of the way. Laziness is the kryptonite of productivity. If dedicating an hour or more to exercise has you rolling your eyes then the 7 Minute Workout app is just for you. This is also great for the busy bees who have a full schedule as it is. In just 7 minutes this app will become your personal trainer and take you through various exercises that provide maximum results for your whole body. Carry the adrenaline rush from the 7 minutes and tackle everything on your to-do list.

Level Money

If you are stressing out about finances it is almost certain that your productivity will be affected. If certain current and/or upcoming debts are on your mind it will be hard to focus on all your tasks at work. Let’s face it, if you lose your job due to this you will have even more financial stress! The Level Money finance app allows you to track your income and expenses helping you achieve financial balance. This app is full of key features that help in informing you on how much you can spend daily in order to cover all of your bills and save a designated percentage each month.

Mailbox

This is one of my personal favorite apps and it’s one of the simplest at that. Many users out there have multiple Gmail accounts, I know I do. The act of having to log in to every email account separately will have many refusing to do so which will result in unread emails and an overall ignored inbox. The Mailbox offers a simplistic design that creates an almost fun way of checking those hasty emails. With the quick swipe of a finger you can throw emails into spam folders or the trash. This app lets you combine all your Gmail & iCloud accounts and view them as a whole. Take care of your important emails and never get backed up again.

Google Docs

2014 was the year where we all started transitioning from document creating programs like Microsoft Word and Excel to the land of Google Docs. With many businesses implementing these Google programs with all of their employees it’s the best time for you to get ahead of the curve. Using this app will have you thinking you have been given some kind of productivity steroid shot. No matter where you are you can create, edit, and collaborate with others on all of your documents from your phone or tablet. With everything being automatically saved it doesn’t matter if you have to quickly close the app or lose internet connection. This is one app you can use for everything!

Become a productivity guru by downloading these apps today. Let us know your favorite productivity apps by sending us a tweet!

Inspiring Workout Scenes In Movies http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/inspiring-workout-scenes-in-movies/ http://thepopfix.com/2015/01/23/inspiring-workout-scenes-in-movies/#comments Fri, 23 Jan 2015 21:14:00 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11408 We are three weeks into January and in these final days we are all finding out who stuck to their new year’s resolutions and who just couldn’t hold on. Becoming active and getting in shape is on average one of the more popular resolutions. The gyms become overly crowded and fitness companies smile due to the increase in clothing and equipment being purchased. Sadly a lot of these clothes still have the tags on them and the new weights haven’t been lifted up once. In a couple weeks it will be a new month and everyone loves fresh starts. With that being said it’s time to turn Netflix off and give those running shoes another try. THEPOPFIX wants to assist you in the transition from indulging yourself with movies by incorporating that into your workout regimen.

Inspiring Workout

Scenes In Movies

rocky

Running Stairs:

Obviously this one is inspired by “Rocky.” This high-intensity styled workout was shown in a few of the “Rocky” films and had provided viewers with some stimulation to inspire them to tackle their own stairs Sylvester Stallone style. Climbing staircases gets your blood pumping fast and allows you to burn off calories in a short amount of time. Get out there and tone that lower body!

Aerobics:

This retro cardio craze from the 80’s caught everyone’s eye when they saw Jamie Lee Curtis in “Perfect.” Aerobics generate low to high intensity and creates great weight loss results. The version of aerobics Curtis does in this film is the more dance style alternative which makes working out fun. A modern version of this exercise would be Zumba. You can find a local Zumba class or purchase the DVD version.

Push Ups

Demi Moore takes it to the next level in “G.I. Jane” with her insane one armed push ups. Although this scene may be intimidating it’s an awesome source of inspiration. She even does push ups using the back of chairs! There are great apps out there that will help you improve your upper arm strength and be able to get to that “G.I. Jane” level. Push ups will help you with daily activity and better sport performance.

Take these movie moments and use them as motivation during these classic workouts. Do you have a favorite fitness movie montage? If so share it with us on Twitter.

Awkward Holiday Gift Guide http://thepopfix.com/2014/12/17/awkward-holiday-gift-guide/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/12/17/awkward-holiday-gift-guide/#comments Thu, 18 Dec 2014 05:42:44 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11386 In order to find the perfect present it all depends on the giftee. If you are lucky enough your family member or friend has been hinting around to what they want. In other cases you may have someone that you don’t really know very much about and the gift ideas are just not coming to your mind. Then we have the ones where the gift idea frustration becomes so difficult that the whole situation has become awkward. What do I buy them? What do they even like? If I buy them this, will they hate it? These are the questions that make gift giving even more aggravating then those annoying Christmas songs. Hopefully THEPOPFIX can help ease your gift giving stress by breaking it down in our Awkward Holiday Gift Guide.

Awkward Holiday

Gift Guide

awkward
Dog:

Now dog owners absolutely love their pet, but the holiday is very hard on your wallet. You may be stressing out on buying presents for your kids, but they keep asking what you’re getting the dog. The debate is always about whether the dog understands whether or not he/she is being left out on the gift giving. Whether dogs understand the holidays or not, spend a few bucks and buy some special treats or a new comfortable doggy bed.

Step-Child:

The worst case scenario is if this is your first holiday season with your new spouse’s child and you feel like they already hate you. What can you buy that says you are the new cool parent, but also that you’re not trying to buy their love. This is where a two part gift comes into play. Find out what activities the child loves, like snowboarding or bicycling. Then purchase them some new equipment, but also purchase yourself the same so that you guys can go out together and have fun while getting to know each other better.

Crush At The Office:

Yikes, those office crushes can become super awkward around the holiday. You feel inclined that this is the time where you make the move or let them know you are interested. It’s awkward though because you don’t want to ruin your work relationship, plus the gift exchange is more than likely going to happen at the holiday office party. You work alongside each other for probably 8 hours a day, surely you’ve learned some personal things about her. Don’t go over the top with the present, but show you took the time to get her something she has mentioned or seemed to of needed. If you don’t wanna seem creepy, add a comedic twist to the present.

New Mother-In-Law:

You’ve just got married and now the holidays have arrived and there is new family to buy gifts for. Trying to decide what to get your new mother-in-law puts this giant bucket of fear in your stomach. You have to make the right decision with her gift, because you believe she will judge your gift and compare it to how you will treat her daughter. I believe jewelry will be your best bet. Find out her birthstone or go straight to the diamond section and pick her out a great necklace that she will be proud to say her new son bought her.

Person Who Has Everything:

We get it, your parents were in the railroad industry and they’re loaded. This person has every version of the iPad and drives a 2015 Ferrari. For the person who has everything you must get them something strange. In this case I like the idea of something so impractical that it’s practical. For example this bank that eats your money.

Neighbor Who Always Buys You A Gift:

There is always that overly friendly neighbor that goes the extra mile and purchases your family a holiday gift. You may not even know them that well, yet each year they knock on your door delivering a gift. The easiest present to deliver a neighbor like this is the stereotypical baked goods. You just want to give them an inexpensive present, but they will see it as you deeply care since you took the time to make something.

Cousins You See Only At Thanksgiving & Christmas:

We all have that close family that isn’t really close family at all. We see them basically at funerals and holiday dinners. During the weeks prior to the holidays you debate whether or not you should buy them anything. You don’t really know too much about their personal interests, but it’s obvious they drive places and go out to eat. It’s the simplest route, just purchase a food gift-card to a restaurant chain. #FreeFoodIsFreeFood

What Not To Do At The Holiday Office Party http://thepopfix.com/2014/12/16/what-not-to-do-at-the-holiday-office-party/ http://thepopfix.com/2014/12/16/what-not-to-do-at-the-holiday-office-party/#comments Wed, 17 Dec 2014 00:40:48 +0000 http://thepopfix.com/?p=11374 During the month of December many businesses take the time to put work aside for day and allow staffers to celebrate the holidays. Everyone in the office normally gets together to enjoy food, drinks, music, and games. For larger offices this may even be the chance for you to socialize with other employees that are from a different department. That opportunity right there can cause a lot of stress. To help you make a great impression here some tips that will keep you from becoming the talk of the cubicle the next morning.

What Not To Do

At The Holiday Office Party

the office

If the party takes place after the work day then there more than likely will be alcoholic beverages. Whether this is a spiked punch, champagne, or some eggnog made with rum. Watching the quantity of how much you drink is really important. You don’t want that buzz making you act forward and say provocative things, because you might find out later that sexy Shelly works for Human Resources.

theoffice3
If you are the boss man/woman and volunteer to be Santa Claus for the party, be careful how serious you take your roll. Be jolly and cheerful, but don’t start asking your employees what they want for Christmas. Trust me, I’m sure more than one of your employees will ask Santa for a raise or bonus. If this happens, just remind them that Santa isn’t real and you have given them the gift of an office party.

theoffice4
If your office takes part in gift exchange or secret Santa, be careful what you purchase. This isn’t a holiday party at your home with your closest friends, so not everyone may get your twisted sense of humor. Preparation H and adult diapers may sound like a hilarious gift to give to your best friend, but that gag-gift may not go over so well with your boss.

theoffice2
The holiday office party is truly a dangerous place. Your reputation could be on the line, but hey it’s a party and we want to have fun right? I guess the only real good tip to give you would be one inspired by the images pictured within this article. Don’t act like Michael Scott and you will do just fine.
