Is Lorde The Next Princess Of Pop?
Last night’s Grammy Awards proved to a big night for Lorde. The 17-year-old pop star went home with some serious bragging rights, and two wins for “Best Pop Solo Performance” as well as the coveted “Song of the Year” for her hit single “Royals.”
Lorde accepted the latter with “Royals” co-writer and producer Joel Little – who she made sure to thank during her speech, along with a shout out to all the fans who helped make 2013 her breakout year, saying, “Thank you for everyone who has let the song explode.”
Indeed it has been one explosive year for Lorde, as “Royals” took her from obscurity to overnight sensation, boosting her debut album “Pure Heroine” to chart topping, commercial and critical success culminating with the recognition of “Song of the Year.” No easy task considering this year’s stiff competition. Lorde’s “Royals” beat out huge hits including Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” Katy Perry’s “Roar,” “Just Give Me a Reason” by Pink featuring Nate Ruess, as well as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love” – who were favored by many to win.
Quite the accomplishment considering most girls her age are currently planning out their prom dates.
