What Changed For Hillary?

With Hillary Clinton’s must wins in both Texas and Ohio, the democratic race is really heating up. Barack Obama’s win in Vermont secured his standing in the race, but broke his long winning streak. Unlike the tight race between these two candidates, the Republican party ended its nights with one sole winner with Mike Huckabee conceding to defeat.

“It’s been a heckuva run,” he said. “Clearly, things didn’t go our way tonight, and we had hoped they would,” he said to reporters in Little Rock. “But when the inevitable is staring you in the face, you accept it.”

What changed so quickly that people in two states voted for Clinton? Many say her stint on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” proved to be extremely effective and a complete change in her campaign.

Media outlets across the country described Hillary Clinton’s weekend appearance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” as a surprise and out of character.

Others said that her move was calculated and rather than being one of humor, was one of solicitation.

Needless to say, the skit was clearly humorous with her clone, Amy Poehler, wearing the exact same outfit as Clinton.

Poehler imitated the senator’s cackle where Clinton immediately asked, “Do I really laugh like that?”

Clinton’s move proved to be successful as America saw a very different side of the usually “robotic” and “emotionless” candidate.

Last Tuesday’s debates, Clinton showed her frustration at the media for showing favoritism to Obama.

“Why don’t we ask the senator if he’s comfortable and needs another pillow,” she said, quoting a skit on “SNL” which portrayed Obama as receiving favoritism from the media.

Some pundits argued that Clinton was being a poor sport but others remarked that the comments were an intentional strategy.

Clearly, capitalizing on Obama’s favor from the media along with a long complaint have worked in favor for Clinton. Even Obama was surprised at how well it had worked.

He said to his wife that he was a “little surprised that all the complaining about the refs has worked as well as it has for them.”

It’ll be interesting what other strategies both teams utilize in this exciting race. Will Obama rebuttal on “SNL?” Will Clinton continue making appearances on television shows? The next two Democratic contests are the Wyoming caucuses on Saturday and the Mississippi primary on March 11, but pundits said the campaign would last until April in Pennsylvania.

As Huckabee said it has and will still be one “heckavu” ride.
